Learning vocabulary and improving a language without sitting in class all day? Yes! Apart from your German class we offer workshops, discussion groups and cultural activities and immerse yourself in the German language and culture.

Credits and certificate

Participants will receive 8 ECTS credit points and a certificate if they attend regularly (at least 80% attendance) and participate actively. Additionally, six weeks after the end of the course a Transcript of Records is issued by Humboldt-University.

Description

German class becomes a hands-on experience through excursions, workshops, guided tours and discussions with interesting personalities. Following the motto "Get out of the classroom, get into the city", this course is especially designed for participants, who are interested in improving their vocabulary by doing, and more intensely experiencing the many faces of Berlin throughout the course period.

Cultural activities about twice a week:

  • museum visits
  • excursion to the UNESCO world heritage site Potsdam and Sansscouci
  • visit of the German Parliament
  • open air cinema & theatre
  • Picnic

Course structure

In this course, the entire city of Berlin is the classroom. Participants are placed into groups based on the results of a placement test prior to the course.

You will receive a total of 100 hours.

The course is held from Monday through Friday in four 45 minutes lectures per day.
Monday through Friday from 9.30 am - 11 am and 11.30 am - 1 pm

Depending on the length and type of excursion or tour, the academic subject classes take place in the afternoon at various locations in Berlin.
Course topics are presented in various methods, with main focus on verbal conversation in authentic situations and learning from experience.

The syllabus is comprised of language instructions, where you can improve your German language skills, academic lessons with weekly foci on aspects of the German culture, politics, history and literature & theater and various cultural activities :

Student Profile

This course is designed for students of German Studies/ German Literature and all interested students, who do not only want to take language classes, but are also interested in topics concerning culture, literature, theater, history and society.

For optimal success in this course, we require a German fluency level of Advanced (C1/C2) or Average (B1/B2).
The fluency levels of the language test are based on the guidelines set by the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages".

The minimum age requirement is 18 years.

TBA - Qualified language teachers

The lecturers all have academic degrees and international teaching experience. In the varied teaching sessions they are highly committed to the learning progress of the students.
