Accommodation

Humboldt-Universität offers a limited number of apartments for participants of the HUWISU short term program. Rooms can be booked during the online course registration. There are single and shared twin bedroom options available. If you prefer not to rent the apartments offered by us, you can choose to book a room in a hotel, a hostel, an apartment or you can stay with friends.

 

Summer University 2017

Unfortunately, the number of available apartments is limited this year due to a shortage in the housing market. Currently there are no free places. Should more spots become available we will post this information online.

General Information

Equipment of the Apartments

The apartments in Adalbertstrasse are completely furnished with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. Depending on the chosen accommodation option two to three participants share an apartment. Kitchen, bathroom and living area will be shared with the other housemates. As a rule people of the same sex share an apartment. HUWISU encourages students to have a multi-cultural experience during their stay, therefore you can share your accomodation with participants of other nationalities.

  • Coffee machine
  • Vacuum cleaner (in some apartments)
  • Coin-operated washing machines and dryers in a separate laundry room in the building                     
  • Telephone
  • Towels and dish cloths
  • TV (only in some apartments)
  • Food
  • Cleaning things (e.g. dish liquid, floorcloth, toilet paper)                              

You may receive an overnight guest for the maximum of two nights. However, you will need to inform the HUWISU office well in advance. Out of respect for your roommate, please be aware that this ability only exists for rented single rooms.

WIFI

There will be free WIFI in your accommodation. In addition, you will be able to use free WIFI on the HU campus.

Shopping Facilities

Close to the apartment buildings you can find supermarkets, a shopping mall with grocery stores, small restaurants, ATMs and a pharmacy. Just a few minutes walk from the apartment block there are several doctors, dentists and and an internet café where you can purchase prepaid phone cards.

Meals

Meals will not be provided at the accommodation. However, the accommodation is fully equipped with cooking utensils to cook your own meals. The university’s dining hall (Mensa) offers reasonably-priced lunch (approximately 3 Euro per meal). There you must pay by using the MensaCard (cash is not accepted). You can add money to your card at the machines located in the dining halls. The machines accept bank notes up to 50€. Please take note of your card number so that in case of loss, the ramaining balance can be paid out to you. A deposit of 1,55€ will be charged when buying the card.

How to get to the accomodations

Arrival from Berlin-Tegel Airport
From Airport Tegel you take the bus TXL in direction to S + U-Bhf Alexanderplatz. From there, take the S Bahn S7 or S75 in direction to Ahrensfelde or Wartenberg or S5 in direction to Strausberg Nord and take it directly to the station Ostbahnhof. From there you can walk to the apartments or take the bus 140 in direction S+U Bhf Tempelhof and get off at Waldemarstraße/Adalbertstraße.

Arrival from the Airport Schönefeld
From the Airport Berlin-Schönefeld, go to the S-Bhf Berlin-Schönefeld and take the S-Bahn S45 in direction to Südkreuz and get off at the station Hermannstraße. From there you take the U-Bahn U8 in direction to Wittenau and get off at the station of your apartments Heinrich-Heine-Straße.

Arrival from Hauptbahnhof (Central Station)

If you arrive at Berlin by train, take the S-Bahn S7 or S75 in direction to Ahrensfelde or Wartenberg or the S-Bahn S5 in direction to Strausberg Nord. Take one of the above to the station Ostbahnhof. From there you can walk to the apartments.

At bvg.de you can also check for connections yourself. If there are any doubts regarding your arrival and the journey to your apartments please do not hesitate to ask us. 

Please note that you need to buy a ticket (Berlin AB)! If you have already bought a monthly ticket via HUWISU, you will receive it upon arrival at the apartments from a student tutor or on the first course day in the main building of the Humboldt-Universität (if you are not staying in the dormitory).
