Accommodation and Meals

Humboldt-Universität offers a limited number of apartments for participants of the HUWISU short term program. Rooms can be booked during the online-registration. There are single and twin bedroom options available.

 

Summer University (June - September 2016):

!Attention!

Due to the great demand, both options of booking a bed in either a single or twin room in our student apartments are no longer available. This affects our Summer Session 1 running from June 20th until July 15th and Summer Session 2 running from July 25th until August 19th, 2016. Please note, this concerns only newly placed reservations. Ongoing bookings are not affected.

There is a waiting list. In order to be placed on the waiting list please get in touch with us: huwisu@hu-berlin.de

We will contact you as soon as new slots are available. The allocation of free spots in the student apartments is done in accordance with the first-come, first-served principle.

 

Room Options

The student apartments for the Summer Sessions are located at Adalbertstrasse / Melchiorstrasse, 10179 Berlin.

The rent for a single room in our student apartments is 580 euros. There is also the possibility of booking a bed in a twin bedroom. The rent of a single bed in a twin room is 305 Euro. The rooms can be booked during the online course registration.

A deposit of 50 euros has to be paid in cash upon arrival**.

Students booked in our student apartments in Adalbertstraße participating in Session I and II are allowed to stay during the course break without additional costs.

Session I

for the Deutsch Erleben,  Berlin im Sommer & Nazi Germany courses: 

arrival: Saturday, June 18th from 11 am – 9 pm/ Sunday, June 19th from 11 am – 9 pm

departure: Saturday, July 16th from 7 am – 2 pm/ Sunday, July 17th from 7 am – 2 pm



for the Global Cities as Centers of Knowledge Production course:

arrival: Sunday,  June 26th from 12 am – 8 pm

departure: Saturday, July 16th from 7 am – 2 pm/ Sunday, July 17th from 7 am – 2 pm



for the Dynamics in Urban Geography, When Islam an Feminism Meet & Crisis and Future of the EU courses:

arrival: Sunday, July 3rd 12 pm – 8 pm

departure: Saturday, July 16th from 7 am – 2 pm/ Sunday, July 17th from 7 am – 2 pm

 

It is not possible to move into the apartments outside these hours. Unfortunately, we cannot make any exceptions!

!Please note!

For students taking the courses commencing June 27th as well as July 4th, there is the possibility to already move into the apartments either on June 18th, June 19th or July 5th during the regular check in times.
 

Session II

for the courses commencing July 25th, the arrival/ departure dates are as follows:

arrival:Saturday, July 23rd from 11 am – 9 pm/ Sunday, July 24th from11 am – 9 pm

departure: Saturday, August 20th from 7 am – 2 pm/ Sunday, August 21st from 7 am – 2 pm

 

Session III

for the Metropolitan Studies course commencing August 22nd:

arrival:  Sunday, August 21st from 12 pm – 8 pm

departure: Saturday, September 3rd from 7 am – 2 pm

 

Please note. For this session it is only possible to rent a single room at our apartment building in Adalbertstrasse / Melchiorstrasse for 325 Euro (two weeks rent only!)

It is not possible to move into the apartments outside these hours. Unfortunately, we cannot make any exceptions!

 

Equipment of the Apartments

The apartments in Adalbertstrasse are completely furnished with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. Depending on the accommodation option chosen two to three participants share an apartment. Kitchen, bathroom and living area will be shared with the other housemates. As a rule people of the same sex share an apartment.

You can find the following items in the apartment:

  • Bed linen
  • Refrigerator
  • Dishes, cutlery and cooking utensils
  • Coffee machine
  • Vacuum cleaner (in some apartments)
  • Coin-operated washing machines and dryers in a separate laundry room in the building

What is not available:

  • Telephone and internet access/ WiFi
  • Towels and dish cloths
  • TV (only in some apartments)

 

Shopping Facilities

Close to the apartment buildings you can find supermarkets, a shopping mall with grocery stores, small restaurants, banks and a pharmacy. Just a few minutes walk from the apartment block there are several doctors, dentists and internet cafés.

Due to the great demand, the option of booking a room in our student apartments is unfortunately no longer available. This affects the Winter University running from January 2nd until 24th, 2016  .

Meals

The university’s dining hall offers reasonably-priced lunch (approximately 3 Euro per meal).

 

How to get to Humboldt-Universität

The apartments at the corner of Adalbertstrasse and Melchiorstrasse are not far from Berlin's city centre. The Heinrich-Heine-St. underground station (U8) and the Jannowitzbrücke underground and suburban rail stations (several lines going in various directions) put you within minutes of Alexanderplatz, Humboldt-Universität, and of a variety of restaurants and cultural institutions.

 

** You will receive your deposit in cash only in the event of a flawless inspection of your room during the regular check-out times.
In case of early departure we kindly ask you to inform us about your bank details within four weeks after the end of your course. The deposit will be transferred to your account given that everything is in order after the room inspection.
